The house is located in the capital city of Vietnam, Hanoi. Due to rapid urbanization, the city faces many problems with traffic jams, air pollution, lack of public space. Save this picture!© Hoang Le PhotographyThe house is designed for 4-member family who wanted to create a peaceful and harmonious place in the hectic city. The land of house is relatively small, 4×16 meters. It was used as a garden with fruit trees and vegetable. The aim was to return this garden to family by applying maximum amount of greenery in the design.Save this picture!© Hoang Le PhotographySave this picture!PlansSave this picture!© Hoang Le PhotographyThe VH House was inspired by traditional tube shopping house, with consideration of contemporary architecture elements reflecting nowadays lifestyle. Typology of tube house is usually narrow deep layout with only one façade. The remaining 3 sides are usually tightly touching adjacent houses without any windows. This method of dividing the plots is due to high land prices, the wider the front street façade, the more expensive the land. The traditional tube shopping house designed with open courtyards in middle of the layout allowing the natural airflow  and natural light throughout the house is ideally adapted to the local subtropical climate.Save this picture!© Hoang Le PhotographyThe main aim was to create a comfortable living for family of 4 in a small plot. One continuous living space is divided by small exterior and interior green courtyards. Roof area is covered by open gardens where the family may plant their own vegetable and fruits. Greenery applied in an architecture is important in the dense city of Hanoi where is lack of green areas and not enough public spaces for inhabitants. Save this picture!SectionThe parcel of the house is relatively narrow with 4.1m. The aim was to create an airy open space on the ground floor so that the residents have a feeling of space generosity even though it is a small house. Separation of the functions in such a linear space is created by the trees and plants which have the function of visual division of the space. They are a replacement for the classical walls. The residents are in the close contact with the greenery which contributes for the positive atmosphere of the house.Save this picture!© Hoang Le PhotographyThe family ties in the traditional Vietnamese family are very strong. Usually several generations live together under a single roof where many family events take place. In nowadays world of modern technology with smart phones and televisions, these ties are weakened. The house is designed with consideration of these aspects. All premises in the house are visually connected to encourage an interaction among family members.Save this picture!© Hoang Le PhotographySave this picture!Concept DiagramDue to very low construction budget the house is designed by cheap local materials such as bricks. For the reduction in an electricity consumption of the air-conditioning system, the house may be naturally cross ventilated.  Save this picture!DetailsSave this picture!© Hoang Le PhotographyThe intention was to find spatial harmony among the traditional house, the local climate and contemporary lifestyle. This house can serve as an example of how to build a house in Hanoi with an emphasis on local climate and culture.Save this picture!© Hoang Le PhotographyProject gallerySee allShow lessHow to Design Smart Homes? 8 Tips for Incorporating Domotics Into ArchitectureArticlesNew Renderings Reveal the Tallest Frank Gehry-Designed Building in the World, part o…Architecture News Share Marek Obtulovic, Mai Lan Chilast_img read more

Understanding The Risks Of Kidney Disease

In comparison, the risk for diabetes, heart attack, and invasive cancer is about four in ten.Because of this, the National Kidney Foundation is calling all healthcare professionals to screen patients for kidney disease. Especially those in specific high-risk groups such as people aged 60 or older, those with high blood pressure, or diabetes. A simple urine albumin test added to annual physical examinations is a small addition, but can be a life-saver.Dr. Beth Piraino, President of the National Kidney Foundation, says, “These new data show clearly that Americans are more likely than not to develop kidney disease, which – in its later stages – is physically devastating and financially overwhelming.”For those who are at risk, suffering from, or have a family member or friend who has kidney disease, on September 15 at 9:30 a.m., the National Kidney Foundation will hold its 4th annual L.A. Kidney Walk at the Rose Bowl. The event is held to call attention to the prevention of kidney disease and the need for organ donation. KCAL9 Anchorwoman Sylvia Lopez will be the emcee of the event.LaMonte Reed, a kidney disease patient who will be present at the event this weekend, talks to us about his own experience with kidney disease. “Most of my life, I’ve dealt with kidney disease. As opposed to most, my kidneys were somehow compromised by a virus at the age of 12. Basically, I lived with that from age 12 up until now. In the last couple of years as I got older, [my] kidneys began to debilitate more. Actually, I went on dialysis two years ago,” says Reed.Because of his dialysis, Reed’s life has drastically changed. He says “it’s been a challenge. My life has definitely changed and of course, I don’t have the liberty to do what I want to do and go out when I want. Because of the dialysis that I have three times a week which is about 13.5 hours where I have to be there in the chair.”Though Reed’s case is rare, it highlights the need to have your kidneys checked regularly. “There’s no real sign to detect that you have failing kidneys. You won’t feel any pain physically,” says Reed. “The only [way] you can detect it is when you go to the doctor and get a physical.”Piraino adds, “if caught early, the progression of kidney disease can be slowed with lifestyle changes and medications. This underscores the importance of annual screenings, especially within the at-risk population, to potentially prevent kidney disease and ensure every patient with kidney disease receives optimal care.”The study also pointed out that the lifetime risk of moderate kidney disease was 59.1%, while for moderate –severe kidney disease is at 33.6%. The lifetime risk for severe (stage 4) kidney disease is at 11.5% while end-stage kidney disease that requires dialysis or kidney transplantation is at 3.6%. Interesting to note, is that African–Americans are at a higher risk at 8%.Though African–Americans are at a greater risk of developing more advanced disease and developing kidney disease earlier, overall the risk is highest among women due to their higher life expectancy.Despite his struggles with the disease, Reed felt he could make a difference. “I feel fortunate and blessed that I am in place where I can do something in place where there hopelessness and a struggle. I really try to inspire people by sharing my story and emphasizing taking care of themselves through exercise and nutrition, as well as being part of a support system.”The main thing, according to Reed, “Whatever you’re doing prior to dialysis, you should try to do that at all costs because that routine of life really helps you cope with still being integrated in your daily activity, still being just like everybody else, not allowing yourself to let depression stand, not allowing you to sit back and do nothing and become inactive and begin to pity yourself.”The National Kidney Foundation (NFK) is the leading organization in the U.S. that is dedicated to the awareness, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease for hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals, millions of patients and their families, and tens of millions of Americans who are at risk. To learn more or register for the NFK’s 4th annual L.A. Honduras Coach Blasts FIFA Over Punishing Playoff Schedule

first_imgHonduras coach Jorge Luis Pinto has criticised world football’s governing body, FIFA,  over the short period between matches in their two-legged World Cup qualifying playoff with Australia. Both teams face a cruel schedule with no direct flights between Honduras and Australia meaning that they have to face journeys of about 24 hours. The two matches of the play-off tie are just five days apart. While speaking on the schedule,  Pinto said: “It’s inhumane of Fifa to put the dates so close with such a long trip in between them.”The Honduran team will fly from San Pedro Sula to Los Angeles’ LAX airport for about seven hours before flying to Sydney for 15 hours. Including transfer time, the whole journey will take close to 24 hours and cover 10,866 miles.Related2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Wrap (CONCACAF): Favourites US Miss Out; Panama QualifyOctober 11, 2017In “FIFA”Russia 2018 World Cup Playoff: Honduras, Australia Clash End In StalemateNovember 11, 2017In “FIFA”Jedinak Hattrick Sends Australia To The World CupNovember 15, 2017In “FIFA”last_img read more
