MillerCoors cuts 350 jobs as part of new restructuring planPosted By: Martin Whiteon: September 05, 2018In: Alcohol, Beverage, Business, IndustriesPrintEmailMillerCoors has announced that it will cut 350 jobs as part of a new restructuring plan, as it aims to get its “business back on track” following several years of slumping beer sales.A statement from the company said that the cuts are necessary as its organisation and cost base are now out of line with the scale of its business and increasing costs.MillerCoors announced earlier this year that its half-year sales volumes had fallen 4.6% as demand for its beers fell among American consumers, and the company ceased production of its Two Hats beer brand in August, just six months after it launched the new brand. The company said that turning around the fortunes of its Coors Light brand was a “critical priority”, and the company has made several moves to address its faltering performance.Since July, the company began to search for a new chief marketing officer who would enhance the company’s marketing operations in an effort to reach more consumers and promote its brands. The restructuring has also seen MillerCoors appoint a new leader to oversee the conversion of its breweries to an integrated system.MillerCoors CEO Gavin Hattersley said: “We are moving quickly and decisively to get our business back on track.“To accomplish this, we know we need the financial flexibility to invest in our brands and solutions at the right level, quickly capitalise on new opportunities, and maintain a robust marketplace presence. Our current fixed cost base limits our ability to do all this.“We’re committed to handling this restructuring with speed, dignity and respect for all involved and without marketplace disruption.“While we know we still have some challenges ahead. We’re establishing a realistic, achievable plan for 2019 to put us on the path to long-term sustainable growth.”Last week, MillerCoors announced that it would introduce a new range of low-calorie alcoholic drinks through the new Cape Line brand.Share with your network: Tags: beerMillerCoorsUS

Share on Twitter Read more United Nations Nuclear weapons US national security Support The Guardian Share on LinkedIn More than three months after a summit in Singapore, North Korean foreign minister Ri Yong-ho told world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly Pyongyang does not see a “corresponding response” from Washington to its early disarmament moves. Instead, he said, the US is continuing sanctions aimed at keeping up pressure.“The perception that sanctions can bring us on our knees is a pipe dream of the people who are ignorant of us,” Ri said, adding that continued sanctions are “deepening our mistrust” and deadlocking diplomacy.“Without any trust in the US there will be no confidence in our national security and under such circumstances there is no way we will unilaterally disarm ourselves first,” Ri said, adding that the North’s commitment to disarming is “solid and firm” but that trust is crucial.Washington is wary of easing sanctions or agreeing to another of the North’s priorities, a declaration ending the Korean war, without Pyongyang first making significant disarmament moves.Ri’s comments come as Donald Trump and his secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, are trying to regain momentum in their quest to get North Korea to renounce its nuclear ambitions. Pompeo is planning to visit Pyongyang next month to prepare for a second Kim-Trump summit. Both Kim and Trump want to meet again. But there is widespread skepticism that Pyongyang is serious about renouncing an arsenal that the country likely sees as the only way to guarantee its safety.Pompeo and Ri met on the sidelines of the general assembly on Wednesday for what Pompeo described as a “very positive” discussion. He did not give any details. The North has traditionally said that the nuclear standoff is between it and the US, but recent summits between Kim and South Korean president Moon Jae-in have also dealt with the nuclear issue.Nuclear envoys from the US and South Korea have met three times during this week’s UN meetings to talk about ways to end North Korea’s pursuit of an arsenal of nuclear-armed long-range missiles. Share via Email news Trump administration relents over census citizenship question Shares8080 Share on Facebook Trump administration Share on Facebook Lauren Gambino in Washington Share via Email Since you’re here… Support The Guardian Share on Twitter The Trump administration said on Tuesday it would begin printing forms for the 2020 US census without a controversial question asking about citizenship, following a key decision by the US supreme court last week blocking the proposal.A Department of Justice spokeswoman confirmed that the question would not be included on the census, which is constitutionally mandated to take place every 10 years. The commerce secretary, Wilbur Ross, confirmed that the forms were being printed without the question, saying in a statement: “I respect the Supreme Court but strongly disagree with its ruling regarding my decision to reinstate a citizenship question on the 2020 Census.”“The Census Bureau has started the process of printing the decennial questionnaires without the question,” Ross continued. “My focus, and that of the Bureau and the entire Department is to conduct a complete and accurate census.”The announcement follows a US supreme court decision last week that temporarily blocked Trump’s administration from adding a citizenship question to the form, arguing that the government had failed to provide an acceptable justification for wanting the information. The ruling in effect froze the administration’s plan to include the question but left unclear whether there would be enough time for the administration to provide the court with a better explanation that meets judicial approval. The administration had previously said a decision was needed by 30 June, though other officials have said it could be delayed until the fall.Hours after the Trump administration’s announcement, Donald Trump said on Twitter: “A very sad time for America when the Supreme Court of the United States won’t allow a question of ‘Is this person a Citizen of the United States?’ to be asked on the #2020 Census!” He added that he had asked the commerce and justice departments “to do whatever is necessary to bring this most vital of questions, and this very important case, to a successful conclusion. USA! USA! USA!” Share on Messenger Tue 2 Jul 2019 19.38 EDT US supreme court Read more Trump administration It was not immediately clear what course of action Trump had asked the departments to take, given that the printing process has already been initiated. As recently as Monday, Trump said he was considering the possibility of trying to delay the census forms being printed – a move that many experts said might not be legal.“I think it is very important to find out if somebody is a citizen as opposed to an illegal,” Trump told reporters on Monday. “It is a big difference to me between being a citizen of the United States and being an illegal.”Experts have said including a question on citizenship would lead to a less accurate accounting of the US population, in part because immigrants might not return their forms out of fear the information could be used against them. The result could have far-reaching political ramifications: the census is used to determine how many congressional seats each state claims as well as how much federal funding states receive. The decision is a major victory for Democrats who have argued that undercounting immigrants would skew the makeup of the House of Representatives in favor of Republicans. Undercounting immigrants, who tend to vote Democratic, would disproportionately hurt liberal states such as New York and California. The House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, said on Tuesday afternoon: “Today’s decision is a welcome development for our democracy. House Democrats will be vigilant to ensure a full, fair and accurate census.”She continued: “We will continue to advance strong legislation to secure critical funding to guarantee maximum participation and inclusion so that every person in every community is counted.”Democrats and civil rights groups challenged the Trump administration’s desire to include the question, arguing that the intent was to skew the results in favor of Republicans and deprive minority communities of federal funding. The American Civil Liberties Union joined the New York Civil Liberties Union and the law firm Arnold & Porter to challenge the administration in court on behalf of immigrants rights’ groups.Dale Ho, director of the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project, said in a statement that the supreme court decision left the Trump administration no choice but to proceed without the question.“Everyone in America counts in the census, and today’s decision means we all will,” Ho said. @laurenegambino The latest major Trump resignations and firings Share on Twitter Last modified on Wed 3 Jul 2019 09.16 EDT Share on WhatsApp US politics Donald Trump Reuse this content Share on LinkedIn

The worldwide augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headset market returned to growth after a year of decline as global shipments during the first quarter of 2019 (1Q19) reached 1.3 million, up 27.2% from the same quarter last year. The overall AR/VR market has begun to grow again thanks to a surge in shipments of standalone head-mounted displays (HMDs) and tethered HMDs that helped to offset the decline in the low-end, screenless viewer segment, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Augmented and Virtual Reality Headset Tracker.VR headsets represented 96.6% of the combined AR/VR market during the quarter with strong volumes from top companies such as Sony, Facebook, HTC, Pico, and 3Glasses. The top five vendors captured 65.1% of the total VR headset market.Marketing Technology News: Comm100 Launches Agent Assist to Boost Agent Performance and Customer Satisfaction“Facebook has promised to bring VR to the masses and it took its latest steps toward realizing this vision with new standalone and tethered headset releases during the quarter,” said Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for IDC’s Mobile Device Trackers. “The company’s new $399 standalone Oculus Quest began shipping this quarter and has enjoyed positive reviews, and its new Rift S offers an updated take on its pioneering tethered headset. These products, along with other new offerings from companies such as HTC and Valve, should position the VR market for solid growth through the rest of the year.”While AR market volumes remain low, there is clear momentum here as well. Top AR headset makers included Epson, Lenovo, Vuzix, Google, and RealWear during 1Q19.“Enterprise AR is evolving quickly and many companies are actively looking for hardware solutions they can use to improve existing business processes and drive new ones,” said Tom Mainelli, group vice president, Consumer and Devices Research at IDC. “Vendors shipping robust, ready-to-use products today are seeing increased traction and we expect their volumes to increase notably through the rest of this year. We have also seen new product announcements from players large and small that should help drive increased momentum and shipments when these products begin shipping later this year.”Marketing Technology News: Orange County United Way and Salesforce Team Up to Revolutionize PhilanthropyIDC anticipates the growth trend established in the first quarter will continue as global shipments for AR/VR headsets are forecast to reach 7.6 million units in 2019, up from 5.9 million in 2018. Much of this growth will occur in the commercial segment, which will consume roughly one of every three headsets shipped in 2019.IDC expects standalone and tethered headsets to drive the VR market growth. Standalone VR headsets will capture 38.2 % of the VR market in 2019, up from 26.6% in 2018. Tethered VR headsets will have a share of 46.1% this year, versus 44.1% last year. Finally, screenless viewers will decline to 15.7%, down from 29.3% last year.Standalone will play an even larger role in AR for 2019, where IDC expects it to capture 53.9% of the market, up from 47.8% last year. Tethered and screenless viewers will capture 27% and 19.1% in 2019, respectively. While the tethered segment is small today, IDC expects it to play a larger role in the future, as it’s likely the first truly consumer-oriented products will use this form factor down the road.Marketing Technology News: New Study From Wunderman Thompson Commerce Reveals Amazon Lacks Loyalty Among Gen Z ARIDCJitesh UbraniMarketing Technology NewsNewsTom MainelliVR Previous ArticleXactly Named Bay Area Top WorkplaceNext ArticleSnowflake Achieves ISO Certification to Help Keep Customers’ Data Safe AR/VR Headsets Return to Growth in the First Quarter As New Models and Use Cases Restore Momentum to the Market, According to IDC PRNewswireJune 27, 2019, 3:40 pmJune 27, 2019

New Delhi: Regional satraps, all astute politicians and mostly from southern states, are positioning themselves to play kingmakers if the Lok Sabha results do not throw up a definite mandate. The list of these possible kingmakers is impressive: Mayawati of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of the YSR Congress Party, N Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party, K Chandrashekhar Rao of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and M.K. Stalin of the DMK. One of these leaders, Mayawati, has already declared her prime ministerial ambitions — not once but twice, the latest being on Wednesday. It is easy to see why she backs herself in that position. Apart from being from Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most important state politically, she is India’s preeminent Dalit player and a master practitioner of caste politics. Her younger mahagathbandhan partner Akhilesh Yadav, with whom she has had a smooth alliance without the friction that one would have expected given their history as political adversaries, could position himself as an important post-poll player. However, he does not have the political heft that Mayawati does.Naidu has emerged as the most politically active leader among the possible kingmakers. He has veered towards the UPA after supping with the NDA and is now running a campaign to mobilise opposition unity. Among the key leaders apart from Sonia Gandhi that he has met recently are Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party, Naveen Patnaik of the Biju Janata Dal and Mamata Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress. Two regional leaders who have kept their cards close to their chests are Reddy and Chandrashekhar Rao. Rao had first proposed a non-Congress, non-BJP federal front — an idea that went out of favour soon after only to be back on the table now. His idea of a federal front appears to be to create an alliance that would give outside support to the ruling alliance at the Centre, much like the Left parties between 2004 and 2008 during UPA-I. He might not bring in huge numbers in the Lok Sabha — Telangana has 17 Lok Sabha seats — but an agglomeration of parties behind him would make him an important leader.Reddy has played a wait-and-watch game. This has also meant confusion for those who have watched him from outside. If he has praised the Prime Minister, he has also said that he has forgiven the Congress party, presumably for not backing him for the chief ministership after the death of his father, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, in 2009. He might not bring in huge numbers, but has shown that he can be a sharp political player.Stalin is clearly in the UPA camp, a powerful regional satrap who is expected to do well in these elections. Sources say he has given an assurance that if it is touch and go on government formation at the Centre, he will deliver the numbers for the UPA with the help of other parties in the south. 2019 election resultsakhilesh yadavChandrababu Naiducounting of vote 2019 First Published: May 23, 2019, 7:24 AM IST

1 of 10 Next Audi does a brisk business selling racing versions of its road cars, and the automaker just unveiled its most powerful racer yet. With 640 horsepower on tap, Audi claims the R8 LMS GT2 will offer more power than any other race car it has sold to customers. The R8 LMS GT2 made its public debut at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and Audi expects it to be eligible to compete in multiple race series in 2020.Aside from the headline horsepower figure (which is 38 hp more than the most powerful road-going R8), Audi was light on details. The LMS GT2 will presumably use the same 5.2-liter V10 as the R8 road car and other racing versions of the R8. Photos released by Audi show typical racing modifications, including more aggressive aerodynamic elements and a stripped-out interior with a very complicated-looking steering wheel. The R8 LMS GT2 was designed to compete in a new racing class called, not surprisingly, GT2. Created for modified production cars, it will fill a gap between the existing GT3 and GT4 classes, according to Audi. Racing fans will remember that GT2 was the name used for the top level of production-based cars in international racing during the 1990s and early 2000s, featuring manufacturer-backed teams with professional drivers. The new incarnation of GT2 will have a different focus.GT2 cars will be built with amateur racers in mind, specifically wealthy enthusiasts willing to buy a seat at a race or just looking for a fun track toy. These so-called “gentleman drivers” (when it comes to gender equality, the racing world has a lot of catching up to do) are an important part of the racing industry, and have become a lucrative source of revenue for automakers like Audi. In addition to the R8 LMS GT2, Audi has GT3 and GT4 racing versions of the R8, as well as a racing RS3 that competes in the TCR class. These are all considered “customer racing” cars, meaning they’re sold to individual buyers or teams, rather than being fielded by Audi itself. If you’ve always wanted your own race car, and have lots of cash to burn, Audi is taking orders for the R8 LMS GT2 at a price of 338,000 euros ($379,000). Deliveries begin in December, and Audi expects the car to qualify for race series’ in North America and Europe beginning in 2020. While the majority of online destinations are known for various degrees of toxic behavior, the app tbh aims to be different. The app promotes compliments and good behavior from users who are asked generally positive questions. The user picks one of their friends as the answer to the question, and that user is then notified that someone chose them as the answer. The recipient isn’t shown who that person is, keeping it anonymous at the same time. Though new and still with limited availability, the app has proven highly popular. The team behind the app explains that more than 5 million people have downloaded it, and that more than a billion messages have been sent with it. That’s all in the last few weeks. Here to capitalize on that is Facebook, which has acquired the app. The tbh team says that nothing will change for the end user, but that it now has more resources to grow the app. In what way Facebook may alter the app wasn’t stated, though it is probably safe to assume that it will rollout to more high schools around the nation at a clipped rate with Facebook’s backing.SOURCE: tbh The teen-centric app ‘tbh’ has been acquired by Facebook, the company announced in a statement today. The acquisition marks a big success for the tbh team, and highlights Facebook’s own attempts at targeting the youngest tech users. While the core Facebook social platform has been losing teenage users for years, others like tbh have been flourishing.
Now, I lined up and bought a Motorola V3 RAZR the day it was released. It should probably come as little surprise, therefore, that I’m automatically drawn to the idea of a rebooted RAZR. One with cutting-edge specifications as well as that ever-rewarding “snap!” as you click it closed. My interest is more than just nostalgia, though. Depending on how closely Lenovo sticks to the original Motorola RAZR apparently inspiring this new smartphone, we could potentially see a phone that addresses a huge complaint in the industry today. Just like the original RAZR made the candy bar cellphone more pocketable, so could this new RAZR do the same for the modern breed of vast smartphones. Details around actual hardware and specifications are in very short supply right now. Beyond the fact that Lenovo is making the new Motorola RAZR with a Verizon exclusive in mind, and in vanishingly small numbers in the grand scheme of cellphone mass production, the only real tidbit is a price tag. Think along the lines of around $1,500, and only around 200,000 devices actually made. The foldable phones we’ve seen so far – and, admittedly, there aren’t exactly many of them – have looked at the form-factor from the perspective of a collapsable tablet. Samsung’s foldable Galaxy prototype, shown off at the company’s developer summit last year and expected to make its official debut on February 20 alongside the Galaxy S10, is a chunky candy bar when closed. It opens out to a roughly 7-inch tablet. The Royole FlexPai takes a similar approach. As we saw at CES 2019 last week, the “world’s first commercial foldable smartphone with a fully flexible display” opts for a 7.8-inch square screen that folds roughly in half for phone purposes. There are some good reasons why a phone-that-becomes-a-tablet design is a safe place to start. A bigger device can be thicker without running such a risk of upsetting potential customers. That allows for more space for batteries, not to mention for the hinge mechanism. That last part is important. As insiders have whispered about Samsung’s foldable, we’re not at the point where you can crisply bend a display down the middle, unfold it again, and expect it to be unaffected by such treatment. Instead, you need a more controlled curve as the two halves come together; Samsung and others have patents galore demonstrating the elaborate hinges they believe will prevent their flexible displays from cracking.Squeezing that sort of mechanism into a clamshell phone that folds up like a RAZR is going to be tough. That is, if you also want something which isn’t as chunky as an early analog flip-phone. There we have a problem, then, because I think that’s what a lot of people might be hoping for. Perhaps I’m unusual, but I don’t particularly want a smartphone that morphs into a tablet. What I’d much prefer is a small device that opens up into a big-screen phone. Something that doesn’t bulge out of my front pocket like an iPhone XS Max or Galaxy Note 9, yet which still gives me the same display size when I open it up. Clamshell smartphones aren’t new, though they’ve not managed to gain traction in markets like North America. China, South Korea, and other Asia markets, however, have a range of flip phones to choose from. Just in October 2018, the latest Samsung W2019 with Galaxy-esque specifications but in a folding form-factor was spotted. The problem there – and the reason they’ve not caught on more broadly – is that you sacrifice a lot of screen size in the process. With half of the inside of the flip phone dedicated to a physical keypad, the remaining real-estate for the display tends to amount to around 4.2-inches or thereabouts. A far cry from the 6.2-inches of a Galaxy S9+ or the 6.5-inches of an iPhone XS Max.I love having a big display on my phone, and indeed I suspect my dramatically reduced use of tablets is down to phablet-scale smartphones being “big enough” to do double-duty. However it would be nice to have that sort of screen space in a device that didn’t dominate a pocket, purse, or hand. If Motorola, Lenovo, and Verizon can do that with a reborn RAZR, then I think that would be a better demonstration of flexible displays’ potential than anything else we’ve seen so far. IMAGES OptoScalpal; Jonas Dähnert The Motorola RAZR is reportedly returning, the iconic flip-phone rebooted as a cutting-edge foldable screen smartphone, but there’s the potential for something far more interesting than just a cynical branding revival. It’s fair to say that Motorola has never returned to the dizzying heights it attained on the success of the RAZR and its successors. What better way to pay homage to its innovation by bucking the trend in foldable phones today?

Nissan has announced pricing for the 2020 GT-R line, and the cars are costly. The starting price for a 2020 GT-R Premium, the entry-level car for 2020, is $113,540. The next rung up the ladder is the cool GT-R Premium with 50th Anniversary Edition tidbits. That car starts at $122,040. For the 2020 GT-R NISMO, Nissan engineers set out to take race-proven technology and make it accessible and comfortable for drivers of all skill levels. Vehicle control and predictability were critical in achieving this; thus, they adopted the theme “absolute street and track performance” when developing the car.
The car’s exterior is “virtually unchanged” compared to the prototype seen in July says, Nissan. In addition to being allowed to choose their exterior color, buyers will also be able to select interior colors and packages. The gray and gold prototype certainly looked better than the blue and gold Nissan is showing in the images here. The last time we talked about the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign was when the car was on hand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed to a run up the hill. Rumors swirled that the vehicle might enter production as a very limited run ride. Nissan has now confirmed its production plans and offered up pricing on the car. Nissan will make only 50 of the cars, and each of them will sell for 990,000 euros before taxes and options. That euro price converts to over $1.1 million here in the States. That is one expensive Nissan.Nissan notes that while the prototype GT-R50 was covered in gray with gold accents, customers will get to specify their preferred color. The car is based on the NISMO version of the GT-R making 720ps. The prototype car will be on display at the Nissan Gallery in Yokohama from December 7. Anyone wanting to buy one of the 50 cars can go to GT-R50.nissan and start to create their vehicle. Deliveries are set to begin in 2019 and continue through 2020.
